Sumo Dada plays at
Beechworth Biennale Welcome Party
6 March 2026
Statement and Bio
Hailing from Japan and Australia, Sumo Dada is a cross-cultural collaboration, incorporating interdisciplinary music genres such as pop-punk, noise / drone, spectralism, minimalism and maximalism, wrapped in an anti-establishment pop music bubble. With a "compelling sound and vocal, solid arrangement and production, and a quirky, cool vibe", their distinctive and original sound emanates from guitar and effect pedals and samples, an electric violin, electric taisho koto and a big double bass. As an adventurous new music duo, Sumo Dada is pursuing local venues to support their experimental, happy and thought-provoking style during the early weeks of March 2026. The set list includes songs from their first self-titled album, released in 2024, plus new creations set to be released this year. Having played live in the Oita Noise Festival and venues across Japan, Sumo Dada first debut their Australian live performances in Sydney and Orange NSW, 2025.
